Dan Marshall, A new face in the Cardiff music scene, has held a formidable love for music from a young age. Aged 5, he began dreaming of a career in music as he mimicked the presenters he heard on the radio with a tape recorder. “Man, I was a right pain in the ass as a kid – just wanted to entertain everyone and stand out so I would do silly things like magic trick shows for the neighbours and... don’t worry about the rest...”
Since his growth, Dan’s passion for music has only grown. He set up, and began DJing and presenting on radio stations aged 12; he drew in hundreds of listeners and proceeded to astound them with his professional sound and management. Dan mixes all styles of Drum & Bass, he’s currently a resident at Alliance and the acclaimed Welsh night – ‘Aperture’. He started producing at the age of 15 and only a few years on signed his first two tunes for release under the Dogs On Acid imprint. “I’m trying to vary my styles at the moment to reach a wider audience, because that’s what I want to try and do rather than digging a hole I’d rather attempt to please a wider audience!”
Don’t be surprised to find Dan playing out alongside the Cardiff jazz merchant ‘Nicky J’ who he is currently working on a number of tracks with. “I don’t want to be another DJ playing the same record box! I want to bring something new; a new edge to the scene - having live accompaniment/playing live tracks is hopefully going to help me achieve this.”
Dan’s inspiration for making music stems from his upbringing - “Most of my memories as a kid were with headphones on! I pretty much heard the whole 90s evolution which was all awesome stuff. To be honest I don’t think music is as powerful as it was back then…”
“I want to show people what I feel is real music and have a wicked time along the way!”
